Pre-authorisation

What is pre-authorisation and when is it applied?

Pre-authorisation is a temporary hold placed on your card to secure the estimated cost of your journey. It works similarly to the hold used by hotels during check-in.

This is not a charge, even if it may appear as one in your banking app.

Pre-authorisation may be applied to new users or guests, and is no longer required once you gain access to membership benefits.

Why does it look like I’ve been charged more than the trip?

Some banks display pre-authorisations as completed charges, which can be confusing.

However, this is only a temporary hold—no funds have been taken. You will only be charged for the journeys you actually complete.

How does the process work?

When you book a journey, we request your bank to reserve an estimated amount on your card.

Once the journey is completed, the final fare is calculated and charged accordingly. Any unused portion of the pre-authorised amount is released back to your account.

Depending on your bank, this release may be immediate or take a few business days.
